About the workshop

Step into the forge and experience the craft of blacksmithing with award-winning metalsmith and educator Luke Axworthy.

Luke offers hands-on blacksmithing experiences for people aged 11+, from complete beginners to those looking to develop their existing skills. Whether you’re looking for an unusual gift, a memorable one-off experience, or the first step towards learning to become a blacksmith, each session is tailored to your interests and experience.

Working from Flameworks Creative Arts Facility in Plymouth, you’ll be introduced to traditional blacksmithing techniques and given the opportunity to work with hot metal under Luke’s expert guidance.

Private sessions

Private blacksmithing sessions are available on Saturdays for individuals or groups.

Your tutor

Luke Axworthy is an award-winning metalsmith and experienced educator with a broad range of traditional and contemporary metalworking skills.

With a Master’s degree in Creative Education and a First-Class Honours degree, Luke combines practical making skills with a strong focus on teaching and learning. He also holds full insurance and training in first aid, Prevent and SENCO, and is DBS checked.

Luke also works closely with local charities and organisations to provide specialist creative sessions for young people, including those who may be struggling with their mental health.

Please note

As a community-driven business with a particular focus on supporting young people, Luke does not teach the making of swords, knives or weapons of any kind.
